This week on The Secret Circle, Season 1, Episode 15: “Return“, Adam got judge-y, Jake got angsty, and Cassie almost BBQed her dad. Wait, what?! Read on, comrades.
- Cassie moves out of Diana‘s house because “Jane’s back and feeling better!” Only, not so much. Cass just wanted a little space — she’s moving back to her empty house.
- Except when she gets there, it’s not exactly empty. Cassie is shocked to hear someone prowling around but we aren’t because, excuse our rudeness, but this house gets more action than the Coney Island boardwalk on July 4th weekend. Proving our point is Jake, who swears he’s running around Cassie’s living room because he saw a stranger trekking through. Cassie finds some ash and salt on the rug — a concoction for dampening a witch’s power. She hasn’t forgotten about Jake’s little murder habit so she suspects he’s the one behind the potion but Jake insists it must be the witch hunters Isaac warned him about. He looks pretty freaked out — we’re inclined to believe him. He wants to stay with Cassie to watch over her but she reminds him that she’s an independent woman by singing some Destiny’s Child (put your hands up!). No, she doesn’t — she shows off some of her killer magic.
- After Jake leaves, you will not believe what happens! A shadowy figure shows up at Cassie’s house! It’s insane — this has never before happened on this show ever. Not once. Nope.
- This time, however, our questing guest is no mere possessed girl or doomed physic — it’s the one, the only, the awesome John Blackwell! Yes, Cassie’s dad is back. He says he’s stayed away to protect her and that he’ll explain everything later. He wants to meet her on the dock at night — not sketchy at all! — and until then, he says she should keep his existence a secret. Cassie’s like, um no. She tells Adam that her dad’s back in town. Adam makes judgey faces and whines that Cassie shouldn’t be hanging with someone who is such bad news. He makes some good points honestly, but we don’t like it when Adam bitches and moans.
- Adam is much more charming when he shows up at Cassie’s new job. She’s a barista now! Adam, who moonlights as both a bartender and a waiter at the Boathouse, shows up to gives her some pro tips. Aw.
- Later, Cassie shows up at the dock to hear Daddy out. Blackwell says he can fix everything if Cassie just gives him the medallion. Oh no. For some reason, we thought lying would be a vital skill in the dark witch toolkit but nope, clearly not, as Blackwell is a terrible liar. He’s not interested in Cassie — he wants the medallion. Cassie knows what’s up immediately and flounces off, hurt. (Related note: We could see John and Dawn making a love connection — they’re both totally obvious in their supernatural-accessory lust, and they say the best relationships are those built on shared interests.)
- After Cassie storms away from John, she promptly gets kidnapped by Eben. The witch hunters nab her by waiting in the back seat of her car, which is a serious fear of ours. Thanks a lot, show! Eben and his gang tie Cassie up and then pour a mind-control serum in her eyes. It’s legit terrifying. But her knight-in-shining-v-neck Jake figures out she’s in trouble and shows up with an offer the hunters can’t refuse — he’ll swap Cassie for John. Because he luvvvs her.
- Speaking of John, he’s decided to pay a visit to his old buddy Ethan. They glare at each other and make vague threats. Ethan specifically warns John away from Adam, which is intriguing. Is Ethan just being a protective daddy or is there some other reason? John doesn’t know the parents are practicing magic again.
- Jake teams up with John to go find Cassie, ie, trade John for Cassie. Except, whoops! The hunters are on to Jake, and they actually want to kill him too. This is shocking but in hindsight, we’re not sure why. Jake is a witch. They are witch hunters. Of course, the witch hunters also want to kill Cassie and John. Because John’s so strong, they’ve decided the only person who can kill him is his badass daughter. They use the mind-control serum to turn Cassie into a total patricide drone. Just when it looks like Cassie will kill John Blackwell, the other members of the Circle come together to defeat the power of the serum.
- We know Cassie’s the most powerful witch in the Circle (maybe the most powerful witch ever, since she seemed to handle John Blackwell just fine), but we’ve been wondering if group magic could trump her. Interesting— we can’t wait to see where this is going.
- As for the other members of the Circle, Diana’s back on the sober wagon after last week’s adorable antics. Less so is Melissa who says she’s done with the drugs but is still dabbling in the drug dealer. But it turns out that Callum is no ordinary drug dealer. He’s also into voodoo, and Melissa and Callum do some strange power stealing sexy ritual with those dirty dolls Lee gave Faye last week. We just start getting concerned that Callum is going to take Melissa’s power when she wises up and taps into her inner badass. Also partaking in a similar ritual is Lee, who is still hot and sketchy. He decides he’s done with siphoning Faye’s power to find his be-coma-ed girlfriend, and decides to tap that sassy witch instead. Just as Faye and Lee get it on, his gf’s eyes pop open. Oh no.
On that note, we bid adieu to Chance Harbor until March 15th! Was The Secret Circle, Season 1, Episode 15, “Return” enough to tide you over?
